Report: Jason Witten to Be Targeted as Fox TNF Analyst If Peyton Manning Passes

Despite Jason Witten's standing as the Dallas Cowboys' starting tight end, Fox Sports is reportedly looking at the 11-time Pro Bowler to serve as a television analyst.

Per Michael McCarthy of Sporting News, Fox Sports wants Witten to be an analyst for Thursday Night Football in 2018 if Peyton Manning doesn't accept the network's offer.

McCarthy previously reported that Manning had offers of $10 million per season from ESPN and Fox Sports to serve as an analyst on their NFL broadcasts.

Per Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, Manning turned down ESPN's offer and could be intrigued by Fox because its package of games is smaller than ESPN's (11 to 19) and wouldn't require him to work on the weekend.

The Cowboys seem to be the go-to team for network football analysts. Tony Romo made a seamless transition into the booth last year with CBS after retiring from the NFL in April 2017.

Witten has given no indication he's ready to walk away from his playing career, though.

"Oh, I'm back," he told reporters after last season's final game against the Philadelphia Eagles. "I'm coming back. I love playing this game too much and I know that I can play it at a high level."

The 35-year-old Witten has only missed one game in his 15-year NFL career. He ranks first in Cowboys history with 1,152 receptions and 12,448 receiving yards.
